Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has claimed his old team should have broken the bank for Erling Haaland.
Haaland's departure from Borussia Dortmund was the story of the 2022 summer transfer window and he ultimately joined City. He hit the ground running and has scored 31 goals in 29 appearances in all competitions, including a hat-trick against United earlier in the season.
And, speaking to OLBG, Yorke said his former club should have gone all out for Haaland when they had the chance, believing January arrival Wout Weghorst to be a positive addition but not enough to take United to the next level.

"Manchester United need a striker," said Yorke. "They've just brought in Wout Weghorst, he gives us a different dimension but he's not explosive enough.
"Weghorst is a Peter Crouch type of player, Manchester United need a striker who will get them 25 goals a season. We missed the opportunity to sign Erling Haaland, Manchester United should have broken the transfer record for him."
On-loan Burnley striker Weghorst was surprisingly targeted by Erik ten Hag to fill the void left by Cristiano Ronaldo. United were unable to afford anything but loan deals in January and Weghorst, who had been on loan at Besiktas, was signed until the summer.
