Paul Pogba has suffered a torrid injury-ridden season at Juventus playing just a combined 161 minutes since joining last summer.
He signed a four-year contract having left Manchester United but the Italian side are already reportedly looking for replacements. The price tag has apparently been set at €10 million, prompting some Reds to suggest the price is almost too low to resist bringing Pogba back to Old Trafford for a third time.
He returned in 2016 as a player at the top of his game but things are very different this time around. He's suffered a dreadful injury record, indeed he missed more than 100 games during his second spell in Manchester, and there are doubts about his long-term fitness.
Not only have there been injuries, but disciplinary issues too. In March he was dropped from the Juventus squad for lateness the day before a Europa League match. It all combines to raise question marks around his future.
Juventus’ chief football officer Francesco Calvo said a few months ago: “We wait for [Pogba] and we do believe in him, otherwise we wouldn’t have given him a four year contract."
But now with a 10 point deduction for past transfer dealings and struggles with their wage bill, the Italian club may have changed their minds, particularly given Pogba is their highest paid player. In an attempt to balance to books Juve may now look to move him on.
And while there will surely be interest, United have no need to re-visit the midfielder. Aside from the salary costs, United have Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Mason Mount and Christian Eriksen in midfield and a host of young prospects. Pogba may be available in a cut price deal but United should avoid any temptation.
