Manchester City are 'in the race' to sign Atalanta centre-back Giorgio Scalvini.
That is according to a report by Calciomercato, as cited by Sport Witness, which claims City, who booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League on Tuesday evening, 'evaluated' him as an alternative to Josko Gvardiol in the summer. The Croatian joined the club from RB Leipzig in August.
However, it is suggested that City have refused to rule out the prospect of moving for Scalvini in 2024. The 19-year-old, who is already a senior international, is considered one of the most sought-after centre-backs in Europe.

Juventus and Bayern Munich have also been credited with interest in the defender, who has been on Atalanta's books since 2015. City are continuing to monitor him and the report claims the defender has 'been in contact' with them.
However, any potential move for the Italian is unlikely to be cheap, with the report stating Juventus have been told they will need to make a 'sumptuous offer' to beat City and Bayern to his signature. Scalvini, who started Italy's 3-1 defeat to England at Wembley last month, has already made 14 appearances for Atalanta this season.
