Law & Order is coming to Canada.
In an article published on Monday (June 5), THR confirmed that Citytv has greenlit a local version of the investigative series in partnership with Universal Television.

The outlet writes that the show will be based on the global Law & Order format and follow an “elite squad of detectives who investigate high-profile crime and corruption in Toronto.”
Production is slated to begin this fall in Toronto, with the series set to debut in spring 2024. The first season will consist of 10 hour-long episodes. It will be produced by Lark Productions and Amy Cameron‘s banner Cameron Pictures.
“The timeless appeal of the cases explored in the globally successful Law & Order franchise continue to draw in Citytv audiences week after week,” Hayden Mindell, senior VP of television, Rogers Sports & Media, said in a statement.
Amy Cameron added: “We are thrilled to be working with Lark Productions and Citytv to bring this series to life. We cannot wait to showcase our amazing city in the Law & Order franchise.”

The pickup was revealed a day before Rogers Media’s virtual upfront presentation on June 6. The Toronto iteration hails from Vancouver-based Lark Productions and Cameron Pictures Inc. in association with Citytv. The first season is planned as ten hour-long episodes, set to premiere in Spring 2024. The show is based on the “Law & Order” franchise created by Dick Wolf for Universal Television, which will distribute the series internationally. But in this case, “Law & Order Toronto: Criminal Intent” also takes its cue from “Law & Order: Criminal Intent,” the third series in Wolf’s “L&O” franchise. The original “Criminal Intent,” created and produced by Wolf and René Balcer, ran for 10 seasons between 2001 and 2011 (first on NBC, and later on USA), and starred Vincent D’Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe.
