Great Britain runner Laura Muir was comforted by her fellow athletes after she broke down following the final of the women's 1500m on Tuesday at the World Athletics Championships where she failed to take first place, instead coming sixth. Reflecting on her performance, Laura said: “I thought I positioned myself well, for the race it was slow and I was covering moves and things it’s just that last lap was crazy.
“It’s just another one of those crazy finals, but I felt like I won before I already came into this race because I was happy”. Laura was then comforted by her team-mates Katie Snowden and Melissa Courtney-Bryant as she choked up live on air after the race.
She had to take a second before continuing: “It's been hard but I can’t thank the number of people that supported me, It’s been amazing, these two have done great, I’m so proud of them, the only nation to have three in the final and I just can’t thank everyone enough.” “I’m proud of that performance, I gave everything that I could today and that’s all I can ask of myself.” The Scottish athlete concluded: “It’s been hard but I’m really excited for the future.” Defending champion Faith Kipyegon dominated the 1500m to retain her title at the World Championships with Laura Muir having to settle for sixth. Kenya’s Kipyegon won in three minutes 54.87 seconds ahead of Diribe Welteji of Ethiopia and the Netherlands’ Sifan Hassan.
Laura struggled to match their final lap pace to drop back and clocked three minutes 58.58 seconds.
Team-mates Katie Snowden and Melissa Courtney-Bryant were eighth and 12th respectively.
Throughout her career, Laura has competed at the Olympic Games twice. She came in seventh place at the 2016 games in Rio de Janeirio, Brazil, and then competed
