A Kirkcudbrightshire woodlands charity is looking forward to branching out in 2023 after some impressive achievements.
Top of the tree for Taliesin Community Woodland was being named Finest Community Woodland in Scotland last year.
And on January 29 the public is invited to celebrate the completion of key projects which helped win the award.
The free event at the idyllic site near Gelston will include hands-on training on how to coppice a hazel wood.
Lunch around the fire will follow the two-hour session with the annual meeting rounding off the day.
Trustee Jenny Stephenson is proud of Taliesin’s success – but would like to see youth have a bigger say in its future.
She said: “We are particularly looking for young people to get involved in the organisation as well as taking part in activities.
“Schools, community groups and youth groups are also invited to use the land here.
“It’s a great place to reconnect with each other and with nature.”
Jenny described the past year as “hectic” – but plans are already in place for a new cycle of activities.
She said: “It has been really rewarding for everyone involved – but we are happy to have a rest.
“We have created a new woodland which will increase the biodiversity that’s there already.
“There’s a new boardwalk round the pond to enable kids to get closer to the wee creatures and we’ve built an outdoor classroom.
“We’ve made an accessible path through the woodland, fully usable by those with mobility issues, leading to a newly built compost toilet.
“And we have an ongoing forest school as well as outdoor learning groups who come and use the place.
“Also, our men’s women’s groups listen to each other and support each other in a safe environment.”
