Kevin De Bruyne reached out to new Manchester City signing Jeremy Doku when he first heard that the Blues were interested in his international teammate.
De Bruyne is Doku's captain for Belgium, and is the most senior player left at City after Ilkay Gundogan's departure this summer. While De Bruyne is currently injured, he made an effort to message Doku and welcome him to City, or offer any advice should he have any questions before picking his new club.
Now Doku is City's third summer signing, making the switch for £55.5m, and will link up with De Bruyne and his new teammates. The 21-year-old spoke of De Bruyne's role in the signing, and put on record his appreciation for the kind gesture.
He said: “I know him of course as he is now our captain [for Belgium] also. As soon as he heard about the rumours [of me joining], he directly sent me a message and gave me some information if I had any questions.

"Obviously now he is injured, but he kindly messaged and said if I need him for anything he will be there. I was happy to hear that. It is very nice as it makes it easier for me. I have already heard that everyone else in the group is good, but of course it makes it easier for me.”
Doku also spoke of his time working with another City legend, as he was at Anderlecht at the same time as Vincent Kompany - even benefitting from a rare assist from the centre-back.
“To play with Vincent was very cool. I have a good relationship with Vincent," he said.
"I remember he gave me one assist, so I am grateful for that. Even if he came to us at nearly the end of his career, you could still see the abilities that he had at City. A top, top
