Kate Garraway unveiled her "very emotional" garden transformation for husband Derek Draper on Tuesday's episode of Love Your Garden Themed Specials. During the latest instalment, Kate, 54, created her first "health and well-being garden" to suit the changing needs of her family. Kate's husband Derek, 54, returned home in April 2021 after spending a year in hospital fighting for his life after contracting coronavirus in 2020, which has since left him battling a number of ongoing health issues. The presenter expanded three borders in her garden to create an "edible garden for health and happiness", which included a tea garden, medicinal bed with antioxidant fruit and aromatherapy section with flowers to be used around the house.

Speaking before the makeover, Kate said: "I think the last year and a half has been very tough for everyone and our challenges have been that my husband Derek got very sick in March 2020 for a long period he was in hospital in a coma. "We were here, in the garden, on our own not knowing whether he'd live or die, trying to manage that fear.
It made me view the garden in a whole different way. "He's now home but still very unwell so we want to make the garden into something more than just a space to be. I really want to grow some plants that will actually improve our health and wellbeing." During the episode, Kate also used some of the lavender from her garden to make a room spray as she was left overwhelmed at the "really strong" smell.
