Kate Garraway has been forced to make the tough decision of closing her husband Derek Draper's firm after racking up almost £200,000 worth of debt. The 54 year old was appointed director of Derek's once successful psychotherapy company, Astra Aspera Ltd, after he was struck down with a long and gruelling battle with Covid in 2020. And on Tuesday, it was revealed that a liquidator was appointed to break up the firm's assets as the company owes £184,000, including £125,000 in taxes.
A friend of Kate's friends told the Daily Mail: "It's terribly sad, but Derek can't work and has no prospect of being able to do so in the near future, so Kate thought it best to close it down." Troubles with Derek's business came to light earlier this month when reports emerged that Kate had "struggled" to "keep going". After falling seriously ill with Covid-19 in 2020, Derek has been looked after by carers and wife Kate — leaving little time for the Good Morning Britain presenter to be able to focus on the couple's business.
"Astra Aspera was primarily Derek's company, he was the director. Kate was made director last February so that she could attempt to keep it going," a source previously told The Mail on Sunday.
"Kate has done her very best to do that while Derek has been incredibly ill. However, he has been unable to work, his revenue has stopped entirely and is unlikely to return in the near future.
