Studio Ramsay Global Appoints Cyrus Farrokh as Head of Worldwide Strategy and U.S. Operations

Selome Hailu After being formed by celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay and Fox Entertainment in 2021, Studio Ramsay Global (SRG) has made its first key executive appointment. Cyrus Farrokh will serve as senior vice president heading up worldwide strategy and U.S. operations. Farrokh will work with Ramsay as well as Fox Alternative Entertainment (FAE) president Rob Wade and SRG’s chief creative officer Lisa Edwards to oversee business development and global growth strategy. He will be based in Los Angeles as he builds on the company’s first year of operations, which have included the launch of Fox’s “Next Level Chef as well as a new free ad-supported television channel on Fox’s Tubi, international format sales with ITV in the U.K. and the upcoming series “Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars.”

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief A weekend concert by Hong Kong acting and singing superstar Andy Lau Tak-wah attracted a record-breaking 350 million viewers on Douyin, the mainland Chinese sister company of TikTok. The concert ran for two hours and attracted 100 million viewers in the first 30 minutes, with tens of millions more joining by the end. The figures beat Lau’s own previous record on the platform, which he set in July last year at a concert to celebrate his 40 years in the business. The South China Morning Post said the record numbers were swelled by a recent wave of nostalgia for Canto-pop or Cantonese-language contemporary music, though the paper also noted that Lau also performed a couple of Mandarin-language classics.

Emily Blunt, Chaske Spencer to Hit Mipcom Red Carpet for ‘The English’ – Global Bulletin

K.J. Yossman “The English” is set to get a star-studded red-carpet premiere in Cannes this October during Mipcom. Emily Blunt, Chaske Spencer and writer/director Hugo Blick are all set to attend the Oct. 16 premiere of the high-octane Western, which will open the festival. Mipcom runs from Oct. 17-20. The six-part series is set to air in November on BBC Two and iPlayer in the U.K. and on Prime Video in the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand Drama Republic, a Median company, and Eight Rooks produce the show in association with All3Media, who are distributing the series. “Dancing With The Stars” is coming to Latvia and returning to Estonia after BBC Studios upped its deal with All Media Baltics.

Asian Film Studios and Location Incentives Growing Hand in Hand

Patrick Frater Asia Bureau Chief Film studios in Asia-Pacific are expanding the scale of their operations and want location incentives to keep pace. “Incentives are fundamental, they are an expectation [of production managers] and having one is no longer a USP,” said Rashid Karim, CEO of Iskandar Malaysia Studios. He was speaking at the Content Asia summit conference in Bangkok on Thursday. The IMS facility opened ten years ago around the same time as Malaysia introduced a location production incentive scheme. These days, the scheme offers a generous 35% uncapped rebate. But since the scheme launched, rival locations in the Asian region including Thailand, India and Mongolia have launched or are in the process of launching rebate schemes.
