Jurors have retired to consider their verdicts in the trial of a man accused of murdering his girlfriend in a city centre apartment block. Kevin Mannion, 45, is alleged to have killed his 22-year-old partner Elinor O'Brien, following an incident at his flat in the Great Northern Tower on Watson Street, Manchester.
He denies murder and is standing trial at Liverpool Crown Court. Prosecutors allege that Mr Mannion stabbed Ms O'Brien after an argument. He has denied being responsible for the fatal stab wound and said he found Ms O'Brien injured.
"I don't know what happened," he told a jury. Mr Mannion, is also charged with wounding with intent and coercive or controlling behaviour.

He is said to have stabbed Ms O'Brien two days earlier, and to have been controlling towards her during their eight month relationship. The defendant also denies these charges.
The trial has heard that the emergency services were called to the apartment after Mr Mannion dialled 999 on August 16 last year. Ms O'Brien had suffered a deep stab wound and died in hospital three days later.
Prosecutors allege that Ms O'Brien was 'stabbed in the groin' by Mr Mannion during a 'rageful and violent attack'. During his 999 call, Mr Mannion told the operator that his girlfriend was seriously injured and was bleeding heavily.
He said that his girlfriend had been 'pierced in the groin' by something after he had thrown bags at her during an argument. Mr Mannion said the couple had become involved in a row after Ms O'Brien asked whether he had been seeing other girls.
He said he asked her to leave and began throwing some of her bags out of the door to the flat
