John Magaro & Jeannie Berlin Join Maggie Gyllenhaal’s ‘The Bride!’

Nick Vivarelli International Correspondent Ed Westwick (“Gossip Girl”), John Hannah (“The Mummy”) and British newcomer Alanah Bloor are set to join Turkish lead Can Yaman in “Sandokan,” Lux Vide’s reboot of the cult Italian TV series about the adventures of its titular pirate who, with his motley crew, fights against colonial powers in Southeast Asia. Shooting is set to start April 22 outside Rome on this high-end reboot of Italian writer Emilio Salgari’s exotic epic.

Riz Ahmed (Sound of Metal) has been tapped for a role in the newest film from Wes Anderson, Deadline can confirm.

Katcy Stephan Tim Meadows (“Mean Girls,” “Bob’s Burgers”) and Stephanie Beatriz (“Encanto,” “Brooklyn Nine-Nine”) have been cast in key voice roles for the upcoming animated comedy/sci-fi feature film “Harry and the Mutant Mid-Century Furniture,” directed by Michael Skolnick (“The Gliksmans”). Mack Williams (“Archer,” “The Get Down”) of Pig Apple and Michael Bitton (“Gran Turismo,” “The Wheel of Time”) of 14th Street Music have also signed on as Animation Director and Composer, respectively.

Katcy Stephan Tom Arnold (“True Lies,” “Roseanne”) has joined the cast of writer, producer, and director Rohit Karn Batra’s drama “The Gun on Second Street.” The film, for which Storyboard Media launched international sales during last year’s Cannes Film Market, is produced by Guy J. Louthan of Ransom Films (“The Call, The Road Within,” “There Be Dragons,”“From Scratch”) with Rikin Shah serving as one of the executive producers.

However, it is still possible to see the ceremony on the CW in 2025 as the network is looking for a path to continue to carry it, shared with another network or a streamer, I hear. There was a similar arrangement for the 2022 Critics Choice Awards, simulcast on the CW and TBS.

Are rom-coms on the resurgence?
