A warm and homely dessert is perfect for this time of year, with the cold weather fast approaching and the nights darkening quickly. What could be better than a hearty crumble, with some homemade custard to boot? Well, James Martin's recipe is just for you.
James wrote on his website: "With colder days fast approaching an autumnal desert is just the ticket! What could be better than Apple and Pear Crumble with home made custard? It's a perma favourite for a reason!"
Read on below to find out how to make this delicious crumble.
For the custard:
Preheat the oven to 180C, and place the fruit into an ovenproof dish, sprinkling the sugar all over. Mix the crumble mix together in a bowl using your fingertips.
Mix until it resembles breadcrumbs, sprinkle over the dish and then bake for 45 minutes. To make the custard, put the milk and cream in a pan with vanilla and its seeds. Warm gently through.
Whisk the egg yolks with the sugar. Pour the milk mixture over the yolk mix, and whisk together.
Transfer this to the pan, continuously whisking until it thickens and sieve off into a bowl.
Serve together with hot custard and the crumble, and a hot beverage if you prefer.
