Love Island has honoured former host Caroline Flack with a touching tribute four years after she took her own life.
The late presenter, who was 40 at the time of her death, had been the face of the show since its launch in 2015 until she stepped down in 2019. Sadly, Caroline took her own life at her London home after facing legal troubles which led to a toll on her mental health. She had faced charges relating to an incident with her boyfriend, Lewis Burton.
Despite Lewis defending Caroline, prosecutors pursued the case, with her family later deeming this a "show trial." The official Love Island Instagram page has now paid tribute to the late TV presenter. Sharing a black-and-white photo of Caroline on the show's set, they added the text: "Caroline. Always in our hearts." After Caroline stepped down from the dating show, her friend Laura Whitmore took her place as host.
Laura then paid tribute following Caroline's tragic death, as she shared that her late friend had "loved love" and truly enjoyed working on the show. Following the news of her death, Love Island was taken off air out of respect, and tributes poured in from her fans and those who knew her. Upon the show's return, it aired messages from mental health charity, Samaritans.
Days after her death, friend and narrator Iain Stirling said on the programme: "We are all absolutely devastated by the tragic news that Caroline, a much-loved member of our Love Island family, has passed away. Our thoughts are with her family and friends at this dreadful time. "Her passion, warmth, and infectious enthusiasm were a crucial part of what made the show connect with millions of viewers, like many of you, right now we're all just trying to come to terms with what has happened.
