Good Morning Britain was criticised for a cringe-worthy April Fools' joke that left Charlotte Hawkins shocked. The ITV presenter was the victim of an unexpected prank on the show, which involved her accidentally breaking a pearl necklace that once belonged to Marilyn Monroe.
Celebrity Big Brother star Zeze Millz brought the jewellery to the ITV breakfast show, along with a curator. She told Charlotte and co-host Richard Madeley that one person on set could try on the necklace.
Charlotte agreed not to touch the pearls, while Richard took out his phone to capture the moment and joked: "wouldn't it be awful if they unthreaded? " Just seconds later, the necklace broke off Charlotte's neck, leaving everyone on the Good Morning Britain set speechless.
When asked if she was pulling a prank, a flustered Charlotte said: "It's not my April Fool's. I really hope it is because, otherwise, I've sort of being a part of damaging a very expensive necklace.", reports the Mirror.
Viewers were not happy when they thought Charlotte and Richard were part of the prank that didn't go well, as they took to X, formerly Twitter. One said: "#GMB with their bs April fools.. so bloody obvious" as another added: "To be fair that was a s**** April fools."
