ITV Corrie fans left feeling sick after 'awkward' leap year proposal

Love was in the air on Coronation Street, as long-term couple Leanne and Nick officially got engaged, after Leanne got down on one knee and popped the question, due to it being a lear year. During Wednesday evening's episode, 14 February, Leanne waited for Nick in the pub before declaring her love. She said: "I know that we've been through some really tough times but I think that is what makes us stronger so, as it's a leap year, I just wanted to ask, will you marry me?" Nick looked shocked and had a slight delay before saying "yes".
Leanne then got up and said: "thank goodness for that, talk about leaving me hanging". Many Corrie fans didn't seem to like the romantic Valentine's Day gesture, as they flooded to social media and labelled the proposal 'awkward' and 'vomit worthy'. One fan wrote on X, formally known as Twitter: "That proposal in front of a bar is totally ridiculous", while another added: "Oh god Leanne that was awkward".
A third quipped: "Nick should have said no to Leanne's proposal and run for the hills! It was his opportunity to get shot of her!", while another simply said: "Vomit worthy". However, some fans enjoyed the proposal and were happy for the characters, as one said: "That was a pretty sweet proposal scene. Fair play".
This wouldn't be the first time that Leanne and Nick have tried to take their relationship to the next level as they first married in January 1998.
The marriage was short lived after Leanne ended up telling Nick that she no longer loved him and moved back to Canada on her own just a year later.
