Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music CriticTaylor Swift has gone to Carolina in her mind in her new single, which was released at midnight Thursday night — the first newly written original song she’s put out since the “Evermore” album in late 2020. But things are more brooding for her in that state of mind than they were for James Taylor.“Carolina” is the end-credits theme for the film “Where the Crawdads Sing,” which doesn’t reach theaters for another three weeks — July 15, to be exact — and the song provides a foretaste of the possibly jolting mood of the climax, where she and the movie’s protagonist are definitely not feeling 22.As much as it’s a direct outgrowth of Swift loving the source novel, fans may feel the song is a throwback … all the way back to the “Folklore”/”Evermore” era of two years ago, with those albums’ primary producer, Aaron Dessner, back on board for a tune lightly augmented with the Americana-friendly elements of mandolin and fiddle. Swift provided more insight into the song in an Instagram post.

Even though there was a huge delay between Seasons 3 and 4 of “Stranger Things,” the Duffer Brothers’ massively popular Netflix series returned in May and, once again, became a juggernaut for the streaming service. But the episodes that dropped several weeks ago aren’t the entire season, and two more, super-sized, episodes are on the way.

Snowpiercer is coming to an end on TNT.
“Lightyear,” a crackerjack sci-fi adventure that just so happens to be the movie that Andy once fell in love with before the events of the first “Toy Story,” is bristling with oversized action sequences, lovable characters (we would die for Sox, Buzz’s robot cat BFF) and an array of fun callbacks to the “Toy Story” franchise. In “Lightyear,” Buzz (now voiced by Chris Evans) is a Space Ranger in a far-flung corner of uncharted space. While exploring a planet for possible habitation, he midjudges, leaving him and the rest of the colonists marooned on a desolate world full of treacherous vines and a very nasty alien bug species.
EXCLUSIVE: TNT’s Snowpiercer will be pulling into the station. The post-apocalyptic drama’s upcoming fourth season, which is currently in production, will be its last. I hear the cast’s options were coming up and were not picked up, releasing the actors to book other jobs.
