Soap fans may be wondering when they'll next get their Emmerdale, Coronation Street and EastEnders fix as the TV schedules are disrupted. The Queen's state funeral will take place today, Monday, September 19, with all major broadcasters covering the historic event.
Queen Elizabeth II died on September 8, aged 96, at Balmoral. Buckingham Palace announced the news at around 6.30pm with a brief statement. The following evening Charles, having automatically become King following the Queen's passing, gave his first address as monarch in which he paid tribute to his beloved mother.
Since then the Queen's coffin has travelled from Balmoral to London, via Scotland, where she has been lying in state in Westminster Hall. She will be laid to rest today (Monday) following a service at Westminster Abbey. Her Majesty’s coffin will then be carried from Wellington Arch by the State Hearse to Windsor where The Queen will be laid to rest alongside Prince Philip, who died in April 2021.
