Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has explained why he believes former Manchester United academy star Angel Gomes is worthy of an England call-up.
The March international break is fast approaching, where Gareth Southgate and Co. will have friendly matches against Brazil and Belgium, both at Wembley Stadium. The fixtures will be the build-up for the European Championships which take place in Germany this summer.
United are likely to have a number of their stars taking part in the tournament this summer, including with England. One star who is not at Old Trafford anymore is Gomes, and Wright believes the former United midfielder is deserving of a call-up.
Gomes progressed through United's academy and made 10 appearances for the first-team after being handed his debut by Jose Mourinho. The 23-year-old left the club in 2020 to complete a free transfer to Lille in Ligue 1.

Since then, Gomes has made 100 senior appearances for Lille following his exit from United. After spending the 2020/21 season on loan in Portugal with Boavista, Gomes has now established himself as a regular figure in Lille's midfield.
After explaining why he believes Kobbie Mainoo deserves a call-up to Southgate's England squad, Wright also outlined the reasons why Gomes is worthy of a selection.
"And equally not seeing enough love and flowers for Angel Gomes and what he's consistently doing at Lille in the centre of midfield," wrote Wright on X, formerly known as Twitter.
"Another top performance yesterday [vs Le Havre]. Call him up and have a look at him."
