Movie fans flooded cinemas today for the release of two of the most hotly anticipated films this year. Known as 'Barbenheimer', July 21, 2023 marked the day hundreds of movie-goers came out in full force to watch Greta Gerwig's twist on the popular children's toy, Barbie and Christopher Nolan's dramatic retelling of the life of the father of the atomic bomb, Robert Oppenheimer.
Locals joined in the internet phenomenon that saw them don Barbie and Oppenheimer inspired outfits to watch the movies. Some who were viewing both films on the same day brought a change of clothes.
The Manchester Evening News headed down to the Vue cinema at the Printworks to speak to some excited fans about the day.

One of those was Connor, who came dressed in all black for the Oppenheimer theme but was Barbie ready with a bright pink shirt underneath his outfit for when he went to watch the star studded summer flick.
"I've got the fit for Oppenheimer but I'm more excited for Barbie." He told the MEN "It's a bit weird isn't it?, It's like the only two standalone films that have come out in recent years and everybody has gone hype about it.
"It's a bit of fun though, it's a day of work isn't it?"
Some people even made a full day of it travelling from outside Manchester to see the movies. One Barbie fan travelled five hours from Scotland to see the movie with her friends and said: "I travelled five hours for Barbie, I'm from Scotland. I came because of my friends who I met online and this is the first time we've met, it's great!"
