Penn Badgley Says Backlash Over Rejecting Sex Scenes Was ‘Blown Out of Proportion,’ Questions Why Netflix Split ‘You’ Into Two Parts

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Penn Badgley ignited a fiery social media debate in February when he revealed that he now refuses to act in sex scenes. “That aspect of Hollywood has always been very disturbing to me — and that aspect of the job, that mercurial boundary — has always been something that I actually don’t want to play with at all,” he told Variety just as the fourth season of his Netflix serial killer show “You” was launching. “It’s important to me in my real life to not have them,” Badgley added about swearing off sex scenes. “My fidelity in my relationship. It’s important to me. And actually, [sex scenes] was one of the reasons that I initially wanted to turn the role down [in ‘You’]. I didn’t tell anybody that. But that is why.”

Arrowverse Co-Creator Spent His Own $10,000 on ‘Infinite Earths,’ Never Got a Call to Meet About New DC Universe: ‘I Really Wasted My Time’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Marc Guggenheim has been a staple of DC Entertainment on television for over a decade as the co-creator of The CW’s Arrowverse, which launched in 2012 with “Arrow” (Guggenheim developed the series with Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg) and continued through “The Flash,” “Supergirl” and more. In a February 2023 blog post that’s now circulating online (via Entertainment Weekly), Guggenheim lamented over not being included in the new DC Universe that’s taking shape at Warner Bros. under DC Studios bosses James Gunn and Peter Safran. Guggenheim admitted in his blog post that friends had told him Hollywood would come calling after he pulled off The CW’s ambitious “Crisis On Infinite Earths” storyline. That crossover event, which aired in December 2019 and January 2020, brought together six different superhero series for a story that ran through five hours of television. It was no easy feat, and Guggenheim said he even put up thousands of dollars of his own money to pull it off.

Idris Elba Says Backlash Over Not Calling Himself a ‘Black Actor’ Is ‘Stupid’: ‘Where Am I Denying My Blackness?’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Idris Elba ignited a firestorm on social media in February after he told Esquire UK that he stopped calling himself a “Black actor” because it created limitations for his career. The “Luther” actor was immediately accused of renouncing his Blackness, although actors such as John Boyega came to his defense and argued that critics weren’t paying attention to his message about damning Hollywood stereotyping. “I feel as I get older – I’m 50 now – we all have fears of saying too much, oversharing and whatno,” Elba now told The Guardian in a new interview. “And in this day and age, it’s really difficult to have an opinion if you’re in the public eye because it gets overly scrutinized, taken out of context, thrown into some sort of bullshit, zeitgeisty social media argument.”

Woody Harrelson’s vaccine jab wasn’t wrong: The Left still can’t take a joke over COVID

Harrelson said. “The biggest drug cartels in the world get together and buy up all the media and all the politicians and force all the people in the world to stay locked in their homes, and people can only come out if they take the cartel’s drugs and keep taking them over and over.”He added, “I threw the script away. I mean, who was going to believe that crazy idea? Being forced to do drugs? I do that voluntarily all day long.”Predictably, the blowback was swift, with nearly every ensuing news story proclaiming Harrelson was spreading anti-vax conspiracy theories.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Selena Gomez spent five years, 106 episodes and one television movie as the face of Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place” franchise. When she outgrew her Disney image and became a pop star and film actor, she left many of the relationships she forged on “Waverly Place” behind. Joining former co-stars Jennifer Stone and David DeLuise on the “Wizards of Waverly Pod” podcast, Gomez admitted that one of her biggest mistakes in life was losing touch with her Disney family. Stone and DeLuise played Gomez’s best friend and father on the Disney hit, respectively. “I think I slowly became kind of shamed. I felt ashamed of the decisions that I made,” Gomez told her former “Waverly Place” co-stars. “I didn’t want you guys to see me in the state that I was in, because A, you would have told me the truth, which terrifies me, and B, I didn’t want to let you down.”

Donald Trump wanted Disney to censor, reprimand Jimmy Kimmel over jokes: Report

Jimmy Kimmel due to the late night host's constant barrage of jokes aimed at the then-President, according to a report. Two former Trump administration officials told Rolling Stone that the POTUS was so incensed with Jimmy's constant jabs that he directed the White House staff to call Disney executives and demand action. One source told the mag that Trump complained the "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" host was "very dishonest and doing things that [Trump] would have once sued over." Rolling Stone says high ranking people at Disney — which owns ABC, the network Jimmy's show airs on — were confused as to why the leader of the free world was so annoyed at the barbs, particularly given that top politicians have been used as late night fodder for decades. The exact number of calls allegedly placed to Disney executives isn't known. "I do not know to who[m], but it happened. Nobody thought it was going to change anything but DJT was focused on it so we had to do something…It was doing something, mostly, to say to [Trump], 'Hey, we did this,'" a Trumpworld source said. The former POTUS, who famously hates being the punchline, has previously voiced his opinion about late night hosts.
