Mark Ronson says that ‘I’m Just Ken’ has helped “young boys emotionally”

Mark Ronson has said that the song he co-wrote for the Barbie Movie, ‘I’m Just Ken’, has helped young boys in an emotional way.The renowned producer – famed for his work with Amy Winehouse and the hit track ‘Uptown Funk’ – co-wrote the song for the soundtrack to the hit 2023 blockbuster, with leading man Ryan Gosling taking on the vocals as the character of Ken.Now, Ronson has explained how he thinks the song’s lyrics about Ken’s unrequited love for Barbie may have impacted people dealing with rejection in the real world.“I know I’ll sound like David Brent, but the song helped young boys,” he told The Times (via Music News) during a new interview, referring to the fictitious character played by Ricky Gervais.“My friend’s eight-year-old got broken up with and he said, ‘It’s OK, because Ken got broken up with by Barbie.’ The song tells boys that it’s OK to be runner-up,” he added.“The internet’s caused a level of isolation in boys and this idea of male camaraderie and sharing your feelings is a nice and unexpected thing to come out of it.”Last night, Ronson and Gosling took to the stage at the 2024 Oscars to perform the track live, following weeks of uncertainty about whether the two would perform it at the ceremony.Gosling took to the stage clad in an all-pink Barbie-inspired outfit while Ronson played the guitar. During the performance, Gosling’s cast mates Simu Liu, Ncuti Gatwa, Kingsley Ben-Adir and Scott Evans joined him to dance onstage.Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash also took part in the rendition, ripping through a guitar solo with Wolfgang Van Halen.

Katcy Stephan The Academy Awards telecast had its fair share of memorable highlights, like John Cena’s naked presentation of the costumes category, or Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt’s faux “Barbenheimer” feud while presenting a special tribute to stunt professionals. But there was plenty that the audience at home didn’t see, from the pre-show pandemonium caused by late arrivals to the sweetest interactions at the Governor’s Ball after party. The 2024 Oscars may be this weekend, but there are still plenty of ways to stream all of the Best Picture nominees from Hollywood’s biggest night right from the comfort of your own home. This year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominated 10 films — including Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” the Christopher Nolan epic “Oppenheimer” and the Emma Stone-led “Poor Things.”Other nominees for the award include “American Fiction,” “The Zone of Interest,” “Anatomy of the Fall,” the Bradley Cooper-led “Maestro,” “Past Lives,” “Killers of the Flower Moon” and “The Holdovers.” The official ceremony, hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, will be held at the Dolby Theatre in LA on Sunday, March 10.

Is it written in the stars? Find out which Oscar 2024-nominated movie matches your zodiac sign

Jimmy Kimmel is set to host and Scorpio king Ryan Gosling will take to the stage to perform his existential bro-anthem “I’m Just Ken.” Gosling is nominated in the Best Supporting Actor category for his role in the blond blockbuster “Barbie.” Despite critical acclaim, the film’s director Greta Gerwig, and star, Margot Robbie were notably excluded from the Best Director and Best Actress categories — thereby proving the point of the movie they made. In 2024, we’ll be celebrating the tenth anniversary of Aquarius John Travolta’s abject butchering of Idina Menzel’s name — and, we’re told, the public debut of Bradley Cooper and Gigi Hadid’s relationship. If the zodiac signs themselves were winners in academy categories, we’d place our bets that Aries wins Best Live Action Short Film, as they go hard and but not for long.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Zack Snyder appeared on “The Joe Rogan Experience” and championed his recent pivot to Netflix. The 58-year-old filmmaker spent the bulk of his career making movies at Warner Bros., but he made the jump to streaming starting with the 2021 release of his zombie action movie “Army of the Dead.” Snyder’s latest Netflix original was “Rebel Moon,” which debuted in December and kicked off a new space saga for the streaming giant. Oscar Producers Talk Early Start Time, 20 Past Winners Presenting Acting Prizes & That Massive ‘I’m Just Ken’ Number With 65 (?) Male Dancers Backing Ryan Gosling: “We’re Going Big!”

It is crunch time for Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, and Molly McNearney, the three Executive Producers of the 96th Annual Academy Awards as they are putting final touches in place for what they hope will be a show that honors not just this year’s crop of movies, but also Hollywood’s and Oscar’s rich past history, and a ceremony that excites viewers to the point of keeping the recent post-pandemic ratings rise rising, (ie not going in the wrong direction). All indicators are, particularly with the potency and popularity of this year’s Best Picture contenders, and most notably the dual phenomenon of summer blockbusters Barbie and front-runner Oppenheimer (aka Barbenheimer) which have 21 nominations between them, that this could be a banner year for the Oscars as there is nothing more encouraging ratings-wise, as host Jimmy Kimmel told me earlier this week, than doing a show where viewers have actually seen the movies and have a rooting interest in the outcome. Ratings for other awards shows (save for the dreary numbers the strike-delayed Emmys got) have been upbeat including the revitalized Golden Globes on CBS, Critics Choice Awards on The CW, and the Grammys which also had a Barbie factor with its Song Of The Year winner from Billie Eilish, “What Was I Made For”.
