Erik ten Hag and Manchester United's players have received briefings throughout the summer about the Premier League's intention to clamp down on dark arts and time-wasting in a shake-up to the rulebook this season.
The new regulations, which have been agreed upon by lawmakers IFAB and the PGMOL, have already come into effect down the football pyramid and they will be adopted by the Premier League from this weekend.
The league's high threshold in terms of contact for free-kicks and penalties will remain, but the new rules will introduce strong measures to reduce time wasting and clamp down on unsatisfactory player behaviour.

The changes come after a successful trial at the Qatar World Cup, which saw longer games due to the exact time wasted being added. Opta found the ball was in play in the Premier League for an average of just 54 minutes and 49 seconds last term.
In previous years, referees would add a nominal period of time for events such as goals, celebrations, injuries and substitutions, but the exact time will now be added instead, with the intention of creating a fairer contest.
Ten Hag described Newcastle as 'annoying' opponents ahead of the Carabao Cup final at Wembley in February because the North East side were the club in the Premier League that averaged the fewest minutes with the ball in play.
He said: “The referees want to play effective time. [Newcastle] have the lowest in the league and they are quite successful with it. So, it’s up to us that we get speed in the game but also we are then dependent on the refereeing as well.”
