The Met Office has issued a rare red warning for extreme heat today for some parts of England and Wales, including Manchester.
Forecasters predict that temperatures could soar as high as 35C in the region today while southern areas could even go over 40C. A red warning is the most serious warning to be issued by the Met Office and it means "dangerous weather is expected" and is likely to bring "a risk to life".
The warning will be in effect from the early hours of today (July 18) until the end of tomorrow. This means that temperatures will remain extremely high throughout the night.

Met Office spokeswoman Nicola Maxey has warned people to expect 'tropical' nights - when temperatures stay above 20C.
She said: “The other thing is overnight temperatures tonight and going into tomorrow, temperatures in some of these eastern urban areas could sty up to the mid-20s which could be the overnight minimum.
“We’ve had high pressure over the UK for a while, so these warm temperatures last week have been boosted now as we’ve got hot air coming in from the south combining with our own warm air we already had. That’s pushing these temperatures up even higher."
