Holly Willoughby returned to This Morning on Monday alongside co-host Alison Hammond following her extended summer break.
The 42-year-old admitted she was gutted to be missing the best of the September heatwave as she returned to work. This Morning opened with a performance from the cast of Mamma Mia as Holly said today marks "new season for our show".
Holly told viewers: "We are back from our summer break, but it's not just the start of a new season for our show. For many people out there, today is the first at school. Mine went back today."
She added: "It was all good but we all sort of opened the window and said, 'Oh, summer decided to arrive today.”
This Morning viewers were less than impressed with the musical opening to the show. As one viewer wrote: "They couldn't have possibly opened the show worse than this," and another added: "This is it, we’ve reached peak cringe."
A third fumed: "Oh Holly stop pretending to have fun and that #ThisMorning is a happy place to work. We now know it's not !!!"
This comes after it was reported that Holly was fully co-operating with the inquiry into Phillip Schofield's exit from This Morning and affair bombshell. The presenter has "fully complied and cooperated with everything that has been asked of her by the KC", sources told The Mirror.
Ms Mulcahy is the main lead of the external review of Phillip Schofield's departure from This Morning, which is expected to be finalised in September. The source added: "Holly was more than happy to do what was asked of her, and explain her position, and what she knew, and what she didn’t."
