Harry Maguire has praised Gareth Southgate for the job he has done as England manager, pointing out his man-management skills in particular.
The former defender has been in charge of the Three Lions since taking over from Sam Allardyce in 2016. He led England to their first World Cup semi-final since 1990 in 2018, and their first major final since 1966 in Euro 2020, where they lost out to Italy at Wembley.
Southgate is out of contract in December, but the FA are keen for the manager to extend that. He is also said to be in the frame to take over from Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford, if United decide to part ways with the Dutchman. A decision is yet to be made on the under-pressure manager.

Ahead of the friendly against Brazil at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, Maguire has given a clear verdict on Southgate and the job he has done with England. “What he’s done from when he first took over this job to where we are at now, we’ve taken huge strides and he’s a massive part of that,” he said.
“Everyone will say, ‘Yes, but we’ve got great talent coming through, better players now,’ but in previous years we’ve also had great talent and great players and we haven’t been successful. He deserves a lot of credit.
“He has taken us a long way and he fully gets a lot of respect from all the players. If you speak to anyone they will speak highly of Gareth and his management tactically but also his man-management is brilliant.
