Emmys Snubs and Surprises: Harrison Ford and Elizabeth Olsen Shut Out, ‘Jury Duty’ and ‘Daisy Jones’ Land Big Noms

this year’s Emmy nominations is the looming actors strike. The writers strike, in effect since early May, has already severely curtailed celebrating the best and brightest of the 2022-23 TV season. And now, with SAG-AFTRA almost certainly joining the WGA on the picket line in a matter of hours, there’s an air of doom over what should be a happy event.  On another, less existential level, what does Harrison Ford have to do to get an Emmy nomination?! The Emmys’ diamond anniversary brought widely expected nominations for previous Emmy favorites like “Succession,” “The White Lotus,” “Abbott Elementary” and “Ted Lasso.” A new shift in rules that capped the number of names voters could submit per category was expected to keep those shows from total domination of the acting categories — but they all still managed to overwhelm the supporting and guest actor categories, along with newly crowned Emmy favorite, “The Last of Us.”

Harrison Ford First Saw Indiana Jones’ Costume and Was Baffled: ‘What Am I Going to Do With a F—ing Whip? I’m Going to Whip People?’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director In a new video interview with GQ magazine, Harrison Ford revealed that he pushed back against Indiana Jones’ iconic costume when he first saw the plans for his character during the development of Steven Spielberg’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark” (1981). The costume included a leather jacket, a bullwhip and a pinch-front fedora that Ford stapled to his head during production so that it would not fly off during action scenes. Ford told GQ he still has the staple scars. “It was presented to me as an aspect of character in the first film,” Ford said about Indiana Jones’ costume. “My questions about it were many. Why am I wearing a leather jacket in the jungle? Isn’t it hot here? Why am I carrying a whip? What am I going to do with a fucking whip? I’m going to whip people?”

23 Years Ago, Harrison Ford Laughed at Jokes About Playing Indiana Jones at 80 Years Old: ‘Indiana Jones and the Comfortable Bed’

Zack Sharf Digital News Director A July 2000 clip from “Late Night with Conan O’Brien” has gone viral on social media for featuring the eponymous late night host making a joke to Harrison Ford about the actor playing Indiana Jones when he’s 80 years old. That panned out to be somewhat true in the recently-released “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” which opened in theaters just a few weeks before Ford turns 81 years old. “People will never get tired of that genre,” O’Brien told Ford at the time. “When you’re 80 you could just do ones where they bring the treasures to you.” Ford burst into laughter, with O’Brien adding that an “Indiana Jones” movie starring an 80-year-old Harrison Ford could be titled, “Indiana Jones and the Comfortable Bed.”

‘Indiana Jones’ star Karen Allen disappointed about role in ‘Dial of Destiny’

Indiana Jones franchise, “Dial of Destiny,” finally swung its way into theaters late last month. While series stars such as Harrison Ford and John Rhys-Davies came back for large portion of the action-adventure flick, one returning alum only had a sliver of time on the silver screen.Karen Allen — who portrays Indy’s longtime love Marion Ravenwood — made a quick, blink-and-you-missed-it cameo appearance at the end of the 154-minutes-long movie. The 71-year-old got candid with the Hollywood Reporter recently and expressed her disappointment with her lack of camera time. She previously had larger parts in 2008’s “Crystal Skull” and 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”Allen admitted that when she read the script for “Dial of Destiny,” she had expected that she would play a major role. However, she noted that it “was just not the direction” that the producers decided to go with.In the franchise, Marion and Indy have a son together, named Mutt Williams. Mutt was played by Shia LaBeouf in “Crystal Skull” and did not return for the latest film in the series.LaBeouf’s character actually died before the movie’s events (which occurred in the late 1960s).Allen explained how the filmmakers had issues with the story because LaBeouf, 37, was not making a comeback, and they had the character killed off-screen in the Vietnam War.

Inside the ‘Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny’ Surprise Cameo: ‘I Was Profoundly Happy’

Adam B. Vary Senior Entertainment Writer SPOILER ALERT: This story discusses major plot developments, including the final scene, in “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” currently playing in theaters. When Lucasfilm announced in 2016 that Steven Spielberg was making a fifth “Indiana Jones” movie with Harrison Ford, fans naturally wondered how much of a role Karen Allen’s Marian Ravenwood — Indy’s spitfire equal from 1981’s “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and the love of his life — would play in the new film. The last time audiences saw Marian, she was getting married to Indy at the end of 2008’s “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” after she revealed to Indy that they’d had a child together, who Indy meets as teenage greaser Mutt Williams (Shia LaBeouf). So any follow-up movie would at the very least need to address the fact that Indy is married with a (grown) kid.

Harrison Ford Playfully Smacked Phoebe Waller-Bridge on the Head With Rolled Up Script on ‘Indiana Jones 5’ Set: ‘It was Hysterical’

Naman Ramachandran Harrison Ford playfully smacked co-star Phoebe Waller-Bridge on her first day on the set of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” Waller-Bridge told the BBC on Friday. The scene was set in a New York bar. “I was a little nervous. And I said to him, ‘If I get like, a little in my head, and if I’m just rubbish, at any point, you can tell me to go again.’ And he was like ‘You in your head, why?’ And I said, ‘Well, you know, it’s here. And it’s with you.’ And then he just rolled up his script and just smacked me on the head with it and was like, ‘Does that help?,'” Waller-Bridge told the “Radio 1 Breakfast with Greg James” show.

Axed Boba Fett Movie Was a ‘Borderline R-Rated’ Spaghetti Western That ‘Probably Scared the S— Out of Everyone,’ Says James Mangold

Zack Sharf Digital News Director James Mangold is moving on to direct a “Star Wars” tentpole following “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” but it’s not his first go-around with the Lucasfilm franchise. Back in 2018, news broke that Mangold had been hired to direct a movie about the bounty hunter Boba Fett. He was also set to co-write the project with Simon Kinberg, best known as a writer and producer on the “X-Men” movies. Mangold’s Boba Fett movie never got off the ground, and he recently said on the “Happy Sad Confused” podcast that it wasn’t too surprising given the overall tone of the project. “At the point I was doing it I was probably scaring the shit out of everyone,” Mangold said. “I was making much more of a borderline R-rated, single planet spaghetti Western. They probably would never be able to embrace Baby Yoda if I had made that. It didn’t really belong in the world I was kind of envisioning.”

Rated PG-13 (sequences of violence and action, language and smoking.) In theaters June 30.Of course, we always feel happy seeing Harrison Ford — the greatest American action star ever — back in the iconic fedora, even at 80 years old.And Phoebe Waller-Bridge of “Fleabag” adds a welcome dose of spit and vinegar as Helena Shaw, Jones’ goddaughter and latest co-adventurer. But I still left asking “Why?” Everybody knows the Indy series should’ve called it quits with 1989’s “The Last Crusade,” after Indiana Jones and his dad, Dr.

Will Harrison Ford return for ‘Indiana Jones 6’?

Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny has finally arrived on the big screen – but is this really the end of Indy’s journey? The latest offering marks the fifth instalment of the franchise, and sees acting legend Harrison Ford reprise his role as the daring adventurer at the age of 80.With the first part of the movie being set in 1944, Dial Of Destiny kicks off with the whip-cracking archaeologist looking to retrieve one half of the Antikythera – an ancient dial built by Archimedes – from a Nazi scientist (played by Mads Mikkelsen). The remainder of the film ventures forward to 1969, where Jones partners up with his goddaughter Helena (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) to locate and retrieve the other half, and potentially alter the course of history. The film has received mixed to positive reviews from critics, with some describing it as a fitting send-off for Harrison Ford’s iconic character. But is this the last time we’ll see the actor in that legendary fedora? The Dial Of Destiny has very much been pitched as Indy’s final adventure, and Ford himself has confirmed on a number of occasions that he is now finished with the role.“This is it! I will not fall down for you again,” the actor joked at D23 last year.“I’ll miss the people who I’ve worked with on the film – everyone at Lucasfilm, at Disney, [director] Jim Mangold, and the actors.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge tried to out-prank each other during the making of “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” the latter actor revealed in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly. “From the moment we met, it was shithead’s all round,” Waller-Bridge said. “We were taking the piss out of each other all the time, and having a lot of fun. The most extraordinary thing about working with Harrison is that you’re definitely at work — in that his work ethic is so on point, and his discipline is so extraordinary — but because he’s that specific and the foundation of the work is really strong, the rest of it can be really fun. There were a lot of pranks… lots of pranks.”

'Indiana Jones' star Harrison Ford reveals which actor was originally offered lead role

Harrison Ford is synonymous with the role of Indiana Jones, but the 80-year-old is revealing he wasn't the original man chosen to don the iconic hat, leather jacket, and whip of the beloved character. While promoting the franchises fifth installment, "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny," Ford described how he got the role. "How I got the job? Tom Selleck had the job, but he also incurred an obligation to do a television series, and he was unable to get out of that contract," he shared with Deadline.
