Pep Guardiola will be forced into making one change to his starting lineup when treble-winners Manchester City get down to business against Sheffield United at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon (3pm).
England defender John Stones picked up an ankle injury during the midweek win over his former side Everton and will not be available for at least the upcoming Premier League match. Stones was withdrawn after 43 minutes and replaced by summer signing Josko Gvardiol at Goodison Park as City ended up 3-1 winners.
Kevin De Bruyne (hamstring), Jeremy Doku (muscular) and Erling Haaland (foot) were also absent for that one and will not return to their matchday squad on Saturday afternoon, either. Guardiola provided a short update on those players during his pre-match press conference - but did not map out an exact time frame for their returns.

"Nothing changed from the last game," said Guardiola. "We have the same injuries plus John Stones."
Having replaced Stones just before half-time against Everton on Wednesday night, Gvardiol is favourite to return to the starting XI in his place against City's rock-bottom opponents, but there are one or two different options for the world champions to call upon. However, with a relatively quiet January to follow, there is no particular forward planning needed in that respect and Guardiola will not, necessarily, have to make other changes.
Croatia midfielder Mateo Kovacic is one man who could come into contention, though, after a decent 25-minute cameo in the Everton match. Goals from Phil Foden, Julian Alvarez and Bernardo Silva settled the scores.
