Some of the biggest names of Broadway (and Hollywood) won’t be receiving those phone calls of congratulations today, as this morning’s Tony Awards nominations included more than a few surprising (or, in some cases, not surprising) omissions.

Sony Pictures Classics on Thursday announced their pickup of worldwide rights (outside of the UK, France, Belgium, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Latin America) to Strange Way of Life, the buzzy Pedro Almodóvar short, starring Ethan Hawke and Pedro Pascal, which will premiere as an official selection of the 2023 Cannes Film Festival.

Tobey Maguire’s trilogy of “Spider-Man,” “Spider-Man 2” and “Spider-Man 3” and Andrew Garfield’s “The Amazing Spider-Man” will arrive on Disney+ on April 21, while Tom Holland’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and Tom Hardy’s “Venom” will debut on May 12. The films’ streaming shuffle has been expected since the massive deal between Sony and Disney in 2021, which kicked into gear the move to bring Sony’s “Spider-Man” films and other Marvel properties to Disney+. As part of the licensing pact, it was agreed that Sony titles would run across Disney’s array of streaming and linear platforms, including Disney+ but also Hulu, FX Networks, ABC, Disney Channels and Freeform.

Star Wars has confirmed that actor Daisy Ridley will return to the franchise.The announcement was made at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in London by LucasFilm president Kathleen Kennedy.Kennedy announced that three new Star Wars films are in the works and that one of them would see Ridley reprise her role as Rey. Ridley played Rey in the final three Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga films.The movie that Ridley will star in will be led by Ms Marvel director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and will pick up 15 years after The Rise Of Skywalker ends.Ridley also appeared at the convention to confirm her role in the project.
