Caterina Scorsone is sharing how will address Ellen Pompeo's limited role in season 19. The actress stopped by the ET stages on Tuesday afternoon for an exclusive sit-down interview where she previewed the new season, which also welcomes five new interns into the world of Grey Sloan.«The whole first part of the season is working its way around this story,» Scorsone told ET's Nischelle Turner at the stages in Studio City, California. «How does this happen? She’s not there all the time.
But also, I think we had emphasized this new incoming class a lot so we’ve always had a structure on the show where we have A plot, B plot, C plot. And that’s given us maximum flexibility.
So if someone gets sick or if somebody’s out with a baby, we can always lean into another storyline and another group of characters. That’s the nice thing about having a huge ensemble.
You can have your babies and it's fine.»With Pompeo stepping back, as she's set to appear in eight episodes, the new season brings about a feeling of the torch being passed on.«Who's getting the torch? Ah, well, what I would say is I feel like everybody is doing a graduating shift into a new kind of chapter of their life,» Scorsone said. «So I think the fun thing for me is that Amelia kind of started out ontrying to prove herself and she was brilliant but troubled and really trying to find her way.

Greys Anatomy is heading into a transformational season. Star Ellen Pompeo is scaling back her on-screen presence to eight episodes, signaling a potential departure of her character Meredith which has been the heart of the medical drama since the start. Meanwhile, five new actors are joining as interns in one of the show’s biggest cast infusions ever, reminiscent of the Grey’s pilot that introduced Meredith and her fellow wide-eyed interns.
Chandra Wilson and James Pickens Jr. have seen it all on As the original cast members of ABC's long-running medical drama return for their 19th season, both acknowledged that this one will feel a bit different as the show welcomes a new class of interns and Ellen Pompeo takes on a more limited capacity, appearing in only eight episodes, though she'll continue to narrate. «We've been very well-practiced over the seasons as to what happens when our characters move in and out of our show,» Wilson, who returns as Miranda Bailey, told ET during the virtual season 19 junket.
starts fresh in season 19 with the introduction of five bright-eyed medical interns, all hungry to make their mark on the medical world. With Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital slowly rebuilding its reputation following the dramatics of last season and Meredith stepping into the chief role, the new class of interns — played by Harry Shum Jr. (Blue), Adelaide Kane (Jules), Midori Francis (Mika), Alexis Floyd (Simone) and Niko Terho (Lucas) — are breathing new life while also harkening back to the past as the medical drama turns over a new chapter. For Francis, who portrays one of the new interns, Mika, joining the family has been as close to a full-circle moment as one can get after having grown up with the franchise as a teen and largely being inspired by Sandra Oh's iconic character, Cristina Yang.«That character and seeing her, especially in the town I grew up in in New Jersey and what I was seeing on TV at that time, it was not [every day] an Asian actor was so present, had so much screen time and was so messy and so good,» the Sex Lives of College Girls star shared in a recent phone interview with ET, adding later that «something in my gut said that this was a good move» when the opportunity arose to come onto the show. Ahead of Thursday's premiere, the 28-year-old actress discusses why she's proud to be playing an Asian character who's not buttoned-up and perfect, surprises that are in store for viewers and why Ellen Pompeo's legacy is bigger than Meredith Grey.I was a fan.

The unscripted dating show features some surprise guest stars from the scripted series, and the husband-and-wife team of Rebecca Romijn and Jerry O’Connell try to help a group of singles find love on the high seas. There’s nothing I love more than celebrating love in a gorgeous location, and this delivers. On the drama front (though BiP and TRLB can never be accused of not bringing the drama), Grey’s Anatomy returns for season 19 and The Good Doctor begins season 5, both on ABC.
