A grandfather at the centre of a murder investigation was found 'sitting in blood' next to his sofa, an inquest opening has heard.
Geoffery Ives was found dead in his flat in Hardfield Street, Heywood, on January 29. Police found the 75-year-old's body following a ‘concern for welfare’ call the same day.
An inquest into the death of Mr Ives, a retired carer, was opened at Rochdale Coroner's Court today (Friday). Outlining the brief circumstances of his death, police coroners offficer Kathy Skelton told the hearing: "A neighbour rang police after not seeing Geoffrey for three or four days.

"Police attended and forced entry into the property and found Geoffrey sitting on the floor leaning against his sofa.
"He was sitting in some blood and there was some blood on his top. He had suffered some injuries."
A police investigation into Mr Ives' death is ongoing, Ms Skelton added. Area coroner Catherine McKenna adjourned the inquest until June 5 when a review of the case is set to be carried out.
Andrew Hall, 57, has been charged with murder in connection to Mr Ives' death. Hall, of Crown Road, Heywood, has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court today.
Paying tribute to Geoffrey following his death, loved ones called him the 'best dad, grandad, uncle and friend'.
"He has been there and supported us throughout our whole lives, always putting us first. He was a stubborn man, but there wasn't a bad bone in his body," his family said in a tribute.
"Everyone that knew him loved him. He was the best Dad, Grandad, Uncle and friend to us all."
