Gogglebox star George Gilbey's mum shares heartbreak over his tragic death: 'He had the best heart'

Gogglebox star George Gilbey’s mum Linda McGarry has shared her heartbreak over the death of her "mummy's boy." George, who was best known for making the nation laugh while watching TV with his mum and step-dad, tragically passed away at the age of 40 following a workplace accident. The tragic news of his death was confirmed on Wednesday, 27 March and at the time his mum chose to have George’s friend, Geordie Shore star Ricci Guarnaccio, speak on her behalf.
The heartbroken mum has now paid tribute to her son in her own words and said he had "the best heart in the world".
Speaking to Thurrock Gazette, Linda shared: "I’m devastated - he was like my best friend. He had the best heart in the world – he was generous, funny and kind, with bundles of charm and buckets of personality." She shared with the publication that he did more "in his 40 years than people do in 90", adding that he even had dinner with "the Prince of Dubai." George shot to fame when he joined Gogglebox in 2013 with his mum and step-dad.
The following year he entered Celebrity Big Brother, where he became good friends with Ricci Guarnaccio, and finished as a finalist.
After finding fame, Linda said he "couldn’t get his life back together" and "couldn’t get over" the death of his step-dad Pete. Pete passed away in 2021 at the age of 71 after a battle with bowel cancer.
Linda also shared: "I have been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and he took it worse than me. He was a mummy’s boy." She went on to say that he became a "celebrity overnight" but it wasn't really something he wanted to be and said, "he was just normal".
