The iconic Gladiators is back, and the revival has introduced a new generation of contenders to a formidable team of powerhouses. Among them is Matt Morsia, known for his success as a fitness influencer on YouTube. Matt, who started as a PE teacher in 2017, made a bold decision to drop a day of teaching to focus on his YouTube channel, a move that ultimately paid off.
Married to Sarah and a father of two sons, Luca and Mauro, Matt quickly gained over two million subscribers on YouTube, surpassing his income as a teacher. Beyond his YouTube success, he launched a prosperous energy drink and fitness app, leading to Sarah leaving her teaching job to manage his channel. Now, at 37, Matt is taking on a new challenge as Legend on Gladiators.
Confident and ready for the competition, he expressed his determination, saying: "I was born for this. Every single game I do, I will win. And I won’t just win it – I’ll do it in an extremely entertaining, dominating fashion.” Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, the fitness expert describes himself as "a cross between Gandhi and David Hasselhoff" on the show.
Matt's enthusiasm for Gladiators runs deep, having had a poster of the original Gladiators bad boy, Wolf, on his wall growing up. He speaks passionately about what being a Gladiator means to him, calling it “amazing”. Matt's journey to fitness stardom took an unexpected turn when, as a talented triple jumper with Olympic aspirations, he suffered a stress fracture in his spine leading up to the London Olympics in 2012.
