Peace lilies are loved for their beautiful white flowers, but some plants tend to bloom faster than others.
If you own one but notice it is taking a long time to blossom - or not growing at all - one gardener's eco-friendly tip may be able to help. It turns out that peace lilies need a certain mineral to thrive, which can be found in the skin of a popular fruit that helps the houseplant "grow flowers faster".
Sharing on the Gardening UK Facebook page, one woman claims she noticed flowers start to emerge from her peace lily after giving it a banana peel scrap. If a peace lily is healthy and has matured enough, it will likely grow up to two flowers, but some varieties be more prone to blossoming at a slower rate.
As reported by The Express, group member Maria Baligasa wrote: “Good morning. Super excited with my peace lily. After putting banana peels, they started to grow flowers faster. It is working so well!”
The houseplant enthusiast shared a before picture of the peace lily that hadn’t flowered and an after photo that captures a stunning white flower growing from the indoor plant. A possible reason as to why this hack that sees gardeners place the peel on the soil works because the banana peels are providing the peace lily with nutrients so it can bloom.
According to the experts at Lawn, potassium is a “vital nutrient for peace lilies” that “helps with flower production”. They claimed that if a peace lily is lacking in potassium, it’s “unlikely to produce flowers”.
The pros noted that peace lily owners can remedy this by using a “potassium-rich fertiliser” or “adding some banana peels or eggshells” to the soil to enrich it. A pack of six bananas can be purchased at Tesco for 75p - making them cost 13 pence each.

Lily Allen is reflecting on an awful rape joke made about her years ago.
Lily Allen is calling out Russell Brand for a rape joke made at her expense between himself, Jimmy Carr, Noel Fielding and Jonathan Ross.
Lily Allen has criticised Russell Brand, Jimmy Carr and Jonathan Ross for making rape jokes about her while she was on the Channel 4 panel show The Big Fat Quiz Of The Year. The singer, who in recent years has pursed acting, said in a new interview that although she didn’t take offence at the time she now realises how “horrendous” they were. Her comments come in the wake of Brand being accused by multiple women of sexual assault and in some cases emotional abuse.Brand has denied the majority of the accusations levelled against him to date, however, he has not publicly responded to more recent ones including allegedly sexually assaulting an extra on the set of his 2010 film Arthur.A clip of the moment the rape jokes were made during a 2007 episode of the series went viral on X (formerly Twitter) after rape allegations surfaced against Brand in September. In the episode in question, Ross moved Allen, whom he calls “the only sexually attractive young lady” on the show, away from panellists Brand and Fielding, stating: “And then Lily may go home with her dress still on.”Fielding then replied: “How dare you – we’re not rapists.”Host Carr then quizzed Fielding about why he was wearing a cape “if [he] wasn’t a rapist” before Fielding pointed out that the cape he’s wearing is, in fact, a Jack the Ripper cape.Fielding said: “He wasn’t a rapist, he was a…”, before Brand interjected to say: “Serial murderer”.Brand continued: “There is no direct corollary between rapes and capes, it’s just a rhyme.”Allen has now spoken to Grazia UK about the incident.“[There was a clip] where I was on a chat show with Russell Brand and Noel Fielding and Jonathan Ross. And there are comments, I think, about me being raped or something.

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Apple’s first major theatrical release, has generated $120 million globally after three weekends of release.
