Builder shares major signs of damp in homes and how to prevent 'a lot of damage'

As temperatures across the UK have started to drop, taking care of your home is more important than ever - as there are many problems that are more likely to occur in autumn and winter.
One of these is the issue of damp and mould, caused by excess moisture within the home and not enough ventilation to fix the problem.
Not only can damp wreak havoc on your walls and ruin paintwork or wallpaper, it's also bad news for anyone with a respiratory illness, as this can make matters much more severe.
However, one expert has lifted the lid on how to spot the signs of damp within your home - and how to fix it as well.
Builder John Sale spoke about the tips in a YouTube video uploaded to HYPE Building's channel, warning homeowners that damp could cause damage to the brickwork in your home, resulting in costly repairs, the Mirror reports.
The expert revealed three key signs that a house has issues with damp, which included:
John also highlighted that in the property he was working at, water was pooling on the kitchen floor whenever it rained outside.
This problem was caused by tiles which had damaged the guttering of the home, allowing water to enter the house. The rainfall was running into the render, which he described as "like a sponge".
Another issue in this house was that the guttering on the main part of the roof was running over the extension and falling onto the kitchen roof where it was leaking into the room.
John added that the brickwork under the external flooring was also causing problems, as he explained: "Sand and cement between the brickwork beneath the ground level is all perished away, and that's how water is entering the property."
