With better weather slowly but surely creeping in, people might want to give their gardens a bit of a spruce.
However, that process isn't always cheap, with some gardening equipment costing a fair amount of money. With that in mind, the experts at Ocean Finance have shared some clever ways to look after your garden - including a £2.80 hack to help your grass 'stay greener for longer'.
While buying lawn feed can be around £13, you can keep lawns lush with an everyday cup of coffee instead, say the experts.
Ground coffee is said to be good for your lawn because of the nitrogen, phosphorus, and trace minerals it contains. These nutrients are released slowly which benefits the lawn for longer.
While many of us will be buying coffee in our weekly shop, you can get some ground coffee for less than £3 if you don’t drink it. For example, Sainsbury's sells Fairtrade Italian Style Coffee for just £2.80.
This is a saving of over £10, and since something you may already buy, it might cost you nothing.
The finance aces also shares some other tips and tricks including using leftover food such as banana peel and egg shells instead of fertiliser.
Likewise, grass, weeds and leaves can also be used as a natural fertiliser as they slowly release certain chemicals that can help the plant for longer.
The experts add: "Using one part vinegar to one part water, you could look to get your patio all clean and fresh ready for the summer evenings."
They explain that you would be spending around £9 on a patio cleaner, while vinegar costs £1.50 - so you'd get a nice saving of £7.50.
