A footballer has been named and pictured as the suspected burglar shot dead at a farm in the Peak District. Marcus Smith, 19, died after suffering fatal gunshot wounds after the alleged break-in at the property on Eccles Road, Chapel-en-le-Frith.
Derbyshire Police were called to reports of a burglary at the farm at around 1.20am on Wednesday (May 1). At the scene officers found Marcus, who had sustained fatal gunshot wounds.
Marcus was named locally as the man who died in the incident, with Chesterfield Coroner's Court also confirming to the Manchester Evening News that the case has been referred to their office. Police have revealed that the man who died was not the owner of the property.

A second man, who is also in his teens, was found with a gunshot wound nearby. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital, where he was also arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary.
The Mirror reported that Marcus was a former pupil at Chapel-en-le-Frith High School and a footballer who had played for local club Chapel Town FC.
And local pub, the Shoulder of Mutton, posted a public tribute on social media, which read: "Myself and all the staff at the Shoulder of Mutton, Chapel en le Frith would like send our utmost deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of Marcus Smith.
"He was a Resident DJ here and we are devastated at your loss he was much loved by everyone who met him, he was a funny, polite, well mannered, charming young man who will be extremely missed by everyone, our thoughts, wishes and prayers to you all."
