A man who died in a Christmas fishing tragedy has been named locally as Ian McBurney.
Tributes have been paid to 'gem of a laddie' Ian who reportedly died after getting into difficulty in Gartmorn Dam, Alloa, whilst fishing with a pal on Christmas Eve.
Local reports suggest the men were angling in the dam when they got into trouble at around 12pm. Emergency services have been seen scouring the area and searching the water since the horror accident.
The alarm was raised after reports that the men's fishing equipment was discovered floating in the water. Posting on social media, one woman said: "Two men went fishing in a boat. The boat and men were gone but all their fishing gear was seen floating."
Responding to reports of emergency crews in the area, another person said: "I heard they are looking for fishermen who fell in the water."
Police confirmed a body, understood to be Ian's, was recovered from the water on Boxing Day. The search is continuing for the other man.
Ian's tragic death has shocked the community. Friend Donna posted a heartfelt tribute on Facebook two days ago.
She said: "The saddest news on the loss of Ian McBurney. Gem of a laddie, always got him the same, never passed you, always had time for a natter about things. Taken far, far to soon. Rest easy son. Sincere condolences to all his family."
Yvonne Taylor added: "So sad. Knew him as a young child. Deepest condolences to the family."
Lorraine Elliot wrote: "Heartbreaking. So sad. My thoughts are with all families involved in the loss."
