Ex-Manchester United star Ryan Giggs has been found not guilty of headbutting his ex-girlfriend and subjecting her to controlling and coercive behaviour. Giggs, 48, was cleared of all charges after Kate Greville withdrew her co-operation from the case ahead of a scheduled re-trial in two weeks' time.
Giggs had faced up to five years in jail if convicted. Jurors failed to agree on their verdicts following a trial held last August.During a hearing on Tuesday, he was cleared of controlling and coercive behaviour, assault occasioning actual bodily harm and common assault. Giggs was not in court when the decision was announced.
Judge Hilary Manley ordered not guilty verdicts to be entered. Prosecutors alleged that Giggs, who won 13 Premier League titles, two Champions Leagues and four FA Cups during a glittering 24 year career, had subjected PR executive Greville to a 'litany of abuse, both physical and psychological'.

He allegedly headbutted Greville at his home in Worsley in November 2020 after she'd confronted him over allegations he'd embarked on 'full on' relationships with eight other women while they'd been in a relationship, Manchester Crown Court heard last summer. He maintained it was an accidental clash of heads.
The former Wales manager maintained he never assaulted Greville at any stage of the relationship 'no matter how bad things got', his lawyer said, adding that the claims were 'based on distortion, exaggerations and lies'.
