Joe Otterson TV Reporter Sterlin Harjo has landed a drama pilot order at FX with Ethan Hawke attached to star, Variety has learned. The pilot is titled “The Sensitive Kind.” Exact plot details are being kept under wraps aside from the fact it is described as a “Tulsa noir about a guy (Hawke) who knows too much.” Harjo created the project and will also serve as director and executive producer. Hawke will executive produce in addition to starring, with Garret Basch also executive producing.
FX Studios, where Harjo is under an overall deal, will produce. The pilot marks a reunion for Harjo and Hawke. Hawke appeared in the penultimate episode of Harjo’s FX series “Reservation Dogs.” Harjo is best known for co-creating “Reservation Dogs” with Taika Waititi.
The series, which followed the lives of four Indigenous teenagers on a reservation in Oklahoma, ran for three critically-acclaimed seasons at FX. The third and final season aired in late 2023. The series received numerous accolades throughout its run, including a Golden Globe nomination for best television series – musical or comedy.
Harjo wrote and directed numerous episodes in addition to serving as showrunner. Harjo’s other credits include films like “Mekko,” “Barking Water,” and “This May Be The Last Time.” He is repped by CAA, Circle of Confusion, Del Shaw Moonves. Hawke is a four-time Oscar nominee — for his work onscreen in “Training Day” and “Boyhood” and for co-writing the films “Before Sunset” and “Before Midnight.” He is also known for roles in films like “The Purge,” “Dead Poets Society,” and “Before Sunrise.” He has also recently starred in TV series such as “The Good Lord Bird” and “Moon Knight,” the latter of which hailed from Marvel Studios.

Powell will star in the series in addition to co-creating and co-writing the pilot with Waldron, with both serving as executive producers. The show is based on the Chad Powers character created by Eli Manning for his EPSN+ docuseries “Eli’s Places.” Manning wanted to learn more about the walk-on process for college football, so he donned a wig and prosthetic makeup so he could go undercover during the Penn State football tryouts.

The project is titled “Grosse Pointe Garden Society.” The official logline reads, “Four members of a suburban garden club, all from different walks of life, get caught up in murder and mischief as they struggle to make their conventional lives bloom.” Bans and Krebs serve as writers and executive producers on the pilot.
