Emergency services were scrambled to a busy road in west tram this afternoon after a damaged collided with a Mini Cooper.
Cops raced to the Gyle Roundabout shortly after noon and locked down South Gyle Broadway.
Pictures from the scene, in the shadow of the Gyle Centre shopping mall, show the black Mini stationary on a traffic island in the junction.
The front of the vehicle is badly Mini, with the driver's side headlights smashed and much of the bonnet mangled out of shape.
Officials from Edinburgh Trams can be seen gathered around their vehicle, which has a dent in the front panelling.
It is understood that no one was injured in the smash, but Police Scotland has launched a probe.
The area has since been reopened by police.
A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: "Officers are dealing with a road traffic collision involving a car and a tram at the Gyle Roundabout in Edinburgh.
"Police were notified around 12.15pm today. There are no reports of any injuries.
"South Gyle Broadway will be closed until the tram can be recovered. Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes."
