EastEnders icon Cindy Beale is reportedly coming back from the dead in an explosive new storyline on the BBC soap. The character, who was played by Michelle Collins, now 60, in the 80s and 90s, became one of the most well-known and legendary ever to grace Albert Square, especially because of her dramatic and on-again off-again relationship with Ian Beale, who is played by Adam Woodyatt, 54. Now, bosses are said to be gearing up for a dramatic return for both Walford favourites, in a bid to shake-up and revive the beloved series. While both actors are reportedly already back and working on set, they're said to be filming their scenes from the exciting new plot in secret.
A source claimed: “This has been done so secretively but it’s going to be an absolute bombshell — an unbelievable twist. “Ian and Cindy are one of the most memorable couples in soap history. But Cindy has been dead for 25 years — and nobody will see this coming." OK! has contacted a representative at EastEnders for comment. The source went on to tell The Sun that the "biggest surprise" for fans will be that Michelle agreed to return to the soap at all, given the fact that she has regularly spoken of her determination not to reprise the character over the years.
In 2019, the actress, who has also starred in grittier dramas such as Midsomer Murders and The Dumping Ground, as well as rival ITV soap Coronation Street and medical hit Casualty, said it had been "just too long now". "Apart from the fact I’m dead. If I went back to EastEnders, that would be it," she explained.

Owen Gleiberman Chief Film Critic If you’ve ever wondered when it was that Michel Gondry, the gifted French director of “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” became the world’s most annoying filmmaker, you might say the answer is, “He always was.” Yet no one, including me, quite thinks of him that way. That’s because the few works of his that have come to prominence possess a special combination of facility and charm. I adore “Eternal Sunshine,” a virtuoso movie that bends your brain and breaks your heart at the same time. You might simply choose to characterize it as the masterpiece of screenwriter Charlie Kaufman, but the truth is that Gondry directed it — the leaps in time, the emotionally convulsive performances of Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet — with a masterful sense of play and gravitational control.
It didn't take long for EastEnders super sleuth fans to predict a major plotline twist is beckoning after the arrival of George Knight on Thursday evening. Theo James has been asked ad nauseam about his prosthetic penis in “The White Lotus,” and Meghann Fahy is starting to feel left out. “Nobody ever asks me about my prosthetic,” she says with a laugh. When the two reunite over Zoom to discuss their roles, they’re perfectly in sync and often answer questions in unison, evoking their characters’ deliciously duplicitous cat-and- mouse relationship. In the second season of Mike White’s hit HBO drama, they star as cunning finance businessman Cameron and chipper stay-at-home-mom Daphne, who are vacationing with strait-laced couple Ethan and Harper (Will Sharpe and Aubrey Plaza, respectively). After engaging in the world’s most elaborate “Wife Swap” plot, they depart Sicily as loved-up as ever — and perhaps rubbing off on their friends.
With a raft of characters on Coronation Street, it can often be hard to keep track of what is happening in the storylines. While writers clearly try and keep viewers in the loop about who is in the cast, there are sometimes quick and unexplained character exits which leave people confused. It becomes even more baffling at times when people sometimes come back to the soap after years, even though they have not been mentioned at all on television by their families.
