EastEnders star Aidan O'Callaghan has teased his character Lewis Butler's potential return to the BBC One soap in the future, pointing out that the door hasn't been "fully shut". Earlier this year, Ben Mitchell, played by Max Bowden, was sexually assaulted by Lewis in harrowing scenes. And during this week Ben's father Phil Mitchell and aunty Sam Mitchell got revenge on the rapist by holding him at gunpoint at an abandoned warehouse.
After confronting Lewis and pointing a gun at him, Ben decided to let Lewis go as he told his family that he gave him a "little scare", vowing to report Lewis to the police. To which protective dad Phil hugged his son, sweetly declaring: "I'm proud of you." Talking about his character's exit scenes and the storyline, actor Aidan, who plays Lewis, told Digital Spy: "In terms of the story, it's a massive emotional week. As far as I know, this is Lewis' last episode.
But the door for me hasn't been fully shut. I will just have to wait and see if my phone rings. "On one side, it has been so rewarding as you get to play so much drama and this really intense arc, but on the other hand it is a really hard arc to carry through in terms of redemption.
"It is such a dark, intense story. If it went to court, that would be fascinating. I know from speaking with Survivors Manchester that court cases can be tricky and complicated, having the evidence brought up.
