Accompanied by Mr Atakan Dogan, Education Attach at the Turkish Consulate in Edinburgh, she joined in the fun of a Turkish Day held at the DGMA’s headquarters in the former Debenham’s building on Dumfries’ High Street.
And the centre made it a town-wide event by inviting the public to join in the cultural celebrations with music, food and plenty of fun.
Sitki Nalci, chief executive officer of DGMA, was delighted with the success of the event and grateful to the distinguished visitors for supporting the endeavour.
He said: “Our aim was to bring together Turkish and all other communities to showcase a taste of Turkish culture, history, hospitality, food, art and music.
“We were delighted to welcome everyone to our first ever Turkish Day.”
DGMA was formed in June 2003 by a number of minority ethnic community leaders who wanted to raise the profile of diversity and the different cultures in the region.
The charitable organisation is open to all members of ethnic, religious and cultural minority backgrounds – as well as organisations and individuals keen to promote its aims. It also works to prevent discrimination and to make everyone aware of the benefits of diverse cultures living together in south-west Scotland.
