Driver arrested with woman fighting for life in hospital after Piccadilly Gardens bus crash leaves a dozen injured

A man has been arrested after a bus crash beside Piccadilly Gardens that left a dozen people injured, with one woman currently fighting for her life in hospital.
A single-decker bus mounted the kerb and smashed into the glass front of the T4 bubble tea store at Piccadilly bus station on Monday afternoon (October 16).
The major incident sparked a huge emergency services response, as police blocked off the area and white tents were erected within the cordon as a number of casualties were treated at the scene.

Greater Manchester Police have confirmed the driver, a 64-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and is in custody to be questioned. The force said one woman was rushed to hospital to be treated from the scene and has suffered life-threatening injuries in the horror.
Police said that a total of 12 people have been injured in the crash, with the others involved currently believed to be in a stable condition with minor injuries. It is understood the casualties are believed to involve both pedestrians and passengers on board the bus
A scene remained in place around the bus station throughout Monday afternoon amid the ongoing enquiries, with the fire service, paramedics and police responding to the incident. The North West Ambulance Service confirmed a number of casualties were treated at the scene.
Detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit are continuing to investigate and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.
