Disney announced on Monday that its Golden Globe-nominated animated feature Wish, starring Ariana DeBose and Chris Pine, will begin streaming on Disney+ on April 3rd.
An original musical comedy co-written by Disney Animation chief Jennifer Lee and Allison Moore, Wish takes us to the magical kingdom of Rosas, where Asha (DeBose), a sharp-witted idealist, makes a wish so powerful that it is answered by a cosmic force — a little ball of boundless energy called Star. Asha and Star confront a most formidable foe — the ruler of Rosas, King Magnifico (Chris Pine) — to save her community and prove that when the will of one courageous human connects with the magic of the stars, wondrous things can happen.
Lee’s co-director on the Academy Award-winning Frozen, Chris Buck, directed alongside Fawn Veerasunthorn, with the latter making her directorial debut. With Alan Tudyk playing Asha’s favorite goat, Valentino, the film also features the voices of Angelique Cabral, Victor Garber, Natasha Rothwell, Jennifer Kumiyama, Harvey Guillén, Evan Peters, Ramy Youssef, and Jon Rudnitsky.
Peter Del Vecho and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster Jones produced the film, with Julia Michaels and Benjamin Rice providing its original songs, and Dave Metzger penning its original score.
While Disney had high hopes for the title, tied to the studio’s centennial, it ultimately disappointed both critically and commercially, even as it nabbed a Golden Globe nom for Best Animated Feature Film. Pic wound up grossing a little over $253 million worldwide.
Set to unveil Moana 2 on November 27th, Disney Animation also has the sequel to its Academy Award winner Zootopia coming up for release on November 26, 2025. Up next for Disney’s Pixar is Inside Out 2 on June
