DGA Announces Revisions To Film & TV Contract, Including Addition Of Streaming Bonus To Match WGA’s

“Oppenheimer” star Cillian Murphy rips into his 2005 movie “Red Eye” in GQ magazine’s latest March cover story.“I love Rachel McAdams and we had fun making it,” Murphy told GQ. “But I don’t think it’s a good movie. It’s a good B movie.”In the psychological thriller, directed by Wes Craven, Murphy plays Jackson Rippner, who’s seated next to Lisa Reisert (McAdams) on a red-eye flight from Dallas to Miami — and whose evil terrorist intentions are revealed once the plane takes off when he tells her he’s going to assassinate the US deputy head of Homeland Security.“When I was a younger actor, I was really, really hard on everything that I was in,” said Murphy (“Peaky Blinders”).

Oppenheimer‘s steamroll of awards season continued with filmmaker Christopher Nolan walking off with the Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Theatrical Feature Film.

Addie Morfoot Contributor After a tumultuous year marked by Hollywood labor strife and cutbacks at major studios, the Directors Guild of America will celebrate helmers, including Greta Gerwig and Christopher Nolan, at its 76th annual DGA Awards on Feb.10. Gerwig and Nolan, the filmmakers behind last summer’s blockbusters “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer,” are nominated for the top trophy alongside Martin Scorsese for “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Yorgos Lanthimos for “Poor Things” and Alexander Payne for “The Holdovers.” Directors for popular shows such as “Succession” and “The Bear” were among those nominated for DGA trophies this year.

Talk to Me was named Best Film at the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, which were handed out today on the Gold Coast. The teen horror pic also won Best Director for Danny and Michael Philippou and Best Lead Actress for Sophie Wilde.

Ethan Shanfeld “The Color Purple” will make its streaming debut on Max on Feb. 16.

Honors are imminent from several industry bodies — DGA, PGA, BAFTA and SAG — all of which share AMPAS members, setting the stage for potential surprises and maybe more question marks. The biggest one of all: Will the Academy go its own way, or will it unanimously favor Christopher Nolan’s epic “Oppenheimer,” potentially setting a record for most wins for a best picture winner since “Slumdog Millionaire” took eight in 2008.

With 13 nominations apiece for the Oscars and the BAFTAs, “Oppenheimer” looks to be the awards season favorite. But director Christopher Nolan thinks his latest film may end up being more than that.

Unless you’re Quentin Tarantino, if you’re a really intensely celebrated filmmaker, sometimes you just don’t praise anything because it sometimes draws attention away from less work or becomes reductive absorbed. The great Stanley Kubrick once famously said, “I am always reluctant to single out some particular feature of the work of a major filmmaker because it tends inevitably to simplify and reduce the work,” when deciding to praise Krzysztof Kieslowski’s “The Decalogue,” regardless.

Almost a “who’s who” of celebrated actors of the past decade, the SAG Awards-nominated ensemble for “Oppenheimer” is so large that many of the cast members didn’t make the cut for the award. One actor who did and left a very memorable impression was Florence Pugh.

Ethan Shanfeld Christopher Nolan is reuniting with Warner Bros. for a theatrical re-release of his time-hopping 2020 sci-fi film “Tenet.” It will return to movie theaters — on 70mm Imax, Imax, digital and 70mm film screens — for one week only, starting Feb. 23.

Even in the glut of Netflix content, some projects prove too troublesome for the streamer to release. Variety reports that after myriad post-production delays, Netflix won’t complete or release “The Mothership,” a sci-fi movie starring Halle Berry.

The nominees for the 96th Academy Awards were announced Tuesday morning, with “Oppenheimer,” Christopher Nolan’s sprawling examination of the dawn of the Atomic Age, leading with 13 nods including Best Picture.

In a film career that has spanned more than 20 years, Cillian Murphy just scored his first ever Oscar nomination, for playing the titular role in Christopher Nolan’s blockbuster epic Oppenheimer. 

Universal’s Oppenheimer led all nominees for the 96th Oscars on Tuesday with 13, one short of tying for the most nominations in a single year.

Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer continued its commanding awards showing this morning, clocking a leading 13 BAFTA noms. Disappearing from the season’s leading pack, however, was Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which only clocked five noms after being longlisted in 15 categories. 

Oppenheimer leading the way with no less than 13 nominations, including best film. Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things is a close second with 11 nods, and then Killers of the Flower Moon and The Zone of Interest which both bagged 9.

Awards season is well underway, with the Golden Globes and the Emmys already over and done with. So far films including Poor Things, Barbie and Oppenheimer have led the way, with the Christopher Nolan-directed film picking up five gongs at the Golden Globes.
