When the Smithsonian Museum of the American Indian hosted Apple Original Films’ Killers of the Flower Moon for an event on Friday, director Martin Scorsese and star Lily Gladstone talked extensively about the development and production of the Oscar-nominated epic.

Leonardo DiCaprio was considered a favorite to receive a Best Actor nomination at the 2024 Oscars for his work in Killers of the Flower Moon, but he didn’t get one in the end.

Valerie Wu Intern Lily Gladstone has become the first Native American woman to be nominated for best actress at the Academy Awards. Gladstone was recognized for her role as Osage woman and historical figure Mollie Burkhart in Martin Scorsese’s epic “Killers of the Flower Moon.” Gladstone’s nomination comes four years after Yalitza Aparicio, who is Indigenous Mexican, received a best actress nomination at the 2019 Oscars. Aparicio starred in Alfonso Cuarón’s 2018 film “Roma” as housekeeper Cleodegaria “Cleo” Gutiérrez.

BAFTA has responded to snubs in the recently announced nominations list.The nominees for the prestigious awards were announced this afternoon, with Oppenheimer continuing to receive high praise this award season with 13 BAFTA nominations, following another impressive evening at the Critics Choice Awards on January 15.However, Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, which received high critical acclaim and broke multiple box office records, only received five nominations after being longlisted for 15 categories.The movie, which was released in July last year, missed out on the nomination for Best Film, and Gerwig has not been recognised for her directing. Barbie has received nominations for Best Leading Actress (Margot Robbie), Best Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling), Best Original Screenplay, Best Costume Design and Best Production Design.BAFTA Head of Film, Anna Higgs, spoke about the nominations and omissions: “The field is so competitive.

Oppenheimer leading the way with no less than 13 nominations, including best film. Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things is a close second with 11 nods, and then Killers of the Flower Moon and The Zone of Interest which both bagged 9.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director Sharon Stone has revealed that she once attempted to pitch a “Barbie” movie to a Hollywood studio during the 1990s and was laughed out of the room. What a difference a couple of decades makes, as Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie’s “Barbie” opened last year and earned a staggering $1.4 billion to become the top-grossing film of 2023 and the biggest earner in Warner Bros.’ studio history.

Oppenheimer has won big at this year’s Critics Choice Awards, but actor Cillian Murphy missed out on receiving the award for Best Actor in one of the main upsets of the night.Christopher Nolan’s epic film about the father of the atomic bomb took home eight awards in total. Nolan earned the award for Best Director and Best Picture, while the film also saw Robert Downey Jr win the award for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Lewis Strauss, the former head of the US Atomic Energy Commission.Murphy lost out at the awards however to Paul Giamatti, who won Best Actor for his turn in The Holdovers. Collecting his award for best director, Nolan said: “To mangle a quote from Sir Isaac Newton, ‘If I appear tall it’s because I stand on the shoulders of giants’ – the particular giants I am standing on is Kai (Bird) and Marty (Sherwin) who wrote the incredible book American Prometheus and spent 25 years doing it.“I thank you Kai for trusting me with your work and Marty, unfortunately he left us before I was able to show him the final script, but Kai your constant reassurances once you saw the film that he would have approved meant the world to me.”Downey Jr meanwhile used his acceptance speech for Best Supported Actor to take joking aim at the critics who have reviewed him negatively in the past.He said: “I was thinking this morning, I just love critics… you know, they’ve given me such beautiful feedback, really just so many great moments, and some of it is so poetic.

The stars of Killers of the Flower Moon showed up and showed out at the 2024 Critics Choice Awards on Sunday (January 14) at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, Calif.

Charles Melton has had a good year; although saying farewell to Riverdale hit him hard, he went head-to-head with Natasha Lyonne for an episode of Poker Face and earned a Golden Globe nomination for his role in Todd Haynes’ May December. Sandwiched between Natalie Portman and Julianne Moore, the U.S.-born actor with Korean roots handled himself impeccably, playing the husband of Gracie (Moore), an older woman once sent to prison for molesting him as a minor. Melton brings a diffident grace to the part, which is crucial to the film’s unfolding when actress Elizabeth Berry (Portman) turns up.

Lily Gladstone has responded to Devery Jacobs‘ criticisms of Killers of the Flower Moon.

Zack Sharf Digital News Director “Killers of the Flower Moon” star Lily Gladstone recently joined Rolling Stone for an interview in which she was asked to weigh in on the heated criticism of the film made by “Reservation Dogs” actor Devery Jacobs, who Gladstone said is a friend. Gladstone also appeared on “Reservation Dogs.” Jacobs is a fellow Indigenous actor best known for playing Elora on three seasons of the FX and Hulu comedy series. She called out “Flower Moon” last October for not portraying its Osage characters with “honor or dignity” and for further dehumanizing them by depicting their deaths.

“We did two films together and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Maybe there’s time for one more?” said Martin Scorsese, turning to Daniel Day-Lewis after the actor lovingly introduced him at the National Board of Review awards gala.
