Corrie favourite lands huge movie role two years after quitting soap and working in café

A former Coronation Street star, who was a fan favourite on the ITV soap, has now landed a huge movie role, two years after officially leaving the Corrie cobbles. The actress joined the cobbles in 2019 as Alina Pop and her character was part of several dramatic storylines during the two years she featured in the show, including her character having a fling with iconic character Tyrone Dobbs, played by Alan Halsall.
Ruxandra Porojnicu, who featured in Coronation Street until her exit in September 2021, has revealed she will be starring in the upcoming film Sumotherhood.
The movie is a sequel to 2011's Anuvahood and Ruxandra announced the exciting news on her Instagram. The star shared the official movie trailer along with the caption: “Hey Sprinkle, SUMOTHERHOOD comes in cinema October 13th”.
Although Ruxandra wasn’t featured in the trailer, her fans were bursting with excitement to see the actress back on screens again. One fan penned: “Don't tell me you're in it”, along with a row of fire emojis, while another said: “Can’t not wait!!”.
Ruxandra previously opened up about her role in Corrie and how she kept her job working in a cafe alongside the acting job.
The Sun reported that Ruxandra said at the time: “I worked all summer in a café and I will keep this job for as long as I can while also going up to Manchester and film. "And yes, it wasn't easy after 6 months of living any actor's dream to work on set full time.
"I wanted to quit and I cried a lot because it's so stressful working in customer service!"
