Coronation Street stars stun as they glam up for first successful gay wedding in soap's history - and Billy actor says he's 'honoured'

Coronation Street stars including Channique Sterling-Brown and Jane Hazlegrove looked fabulous as they were seen on-screen, as their characters, attending the soap's first-ever successful gay wedding. There was plenty of joy on-screen in the ITV soap on Monday night (October 7) as Paul Foreman and Billy Mayhew finally tied the knot.
The couple have somewhat fast-tracked their plans to get married after Paul was given the devastating news that he has Motor Neurone Disease. MND is a fatal, rapidly progressing disease that affects the brain and spinal cord. It attacks the nerves that control movement so muscles no longer work. MND does not usually affect the senses such as sight, sound and feeling but it can leave people locked in a failing body, unable to move, talk and eventually breathe.
Paul, who only discovered anything was wrong after he was accidentally knocked over by Carla Connor in her Underworld van when she had been unknowingly drugged with LSD by Stephen Reid, kept the news from his loved ones, only confiding in his friend and former flatmate Dee-Dee Bailey before Billy discovered the truth and the news emotionally came spilling out to his mum and sister, Bernie and Gemma Winter.

And while there have already been difficult scenes, and more to come as Paul's deterioration with the disease, which currently has no cure, continues, the wedding proved just the tonic to lift everyone's spirits.
